"For the past three years I have contributed to the writing and production of a new documentary film called Boyce & Hart: The Guys Who Wrote 'Em. I have not only donated my time, but also a considerable portion of the funds to get this project off the ground and on to the screen. I have done so because I feel the story of Tommy Boyce & Bobby Hart is not only worth telling, but largely unknown. Their vast archive of personal films, demo recordings and personal ephemera was heretofore untapped and the opportunity to get their journey on film in a unique, totally archival way was irresistible.
I am proud to say that the results are spectacular; the film is nearly complete. However, in order to publicly screen it and get it eventually released on DVD or streaming, we need to license the rights to the music, some clips, the song publishing and pay for final editing and sound mixing. Compared to most productions of this quality, our needs are modest. Still, I ask with considerable humbleness and gratitude that if you can donate to our campaign to complete the project, it would be a great service to 1960's musical/cultural history.
We have just fourteen days to raise some funds to make this all possible. The film is set to screen at CIMM fest in Chicago on May 1, 2014 and we urgently need your help. To be quite frank, I have seen other fund drives pull in hundreds of thousands, but I still feel guilty asking for the help. I truly wouldn't reach out like this if the project didn't need your support and if I didn't believe that it is a great movie. Please donate what you can and share this link with your friends. Thank you!"
