Congratulations to Fred Velez! The eBook, A Little Bit Me, A Little Bit You: The Monkees From a Fan's Perspective, is readable on Kindle and iBooks devices, and will soon be available on other platforms. Follow this link to purchase Fred's eBook. And here's a summary from the publisher: A Little Bit Me, A Little Bit You: The Monkees From A Fan's Perspective chronicles the stories of fans and their personal experiences with the 60's Pop music group, While groups like the Beatles and Rolling Stones were seen as the "Mt. Olympus" in music, they were adored but inaccessible to their fans. The Monkees, on the other hand, cheerfully assured their followers, "Here we come.....We may be coming to YOUR town." The connection between The Monkees and their public was much more unique in that they welcomed their fans into their world.
Fred Velez, known for over 40 years as a Monkees super-fan; as the Master of Ceremonies for the Monkees Conventions; Writer for the Monkee Business Fanzine; and Blog Writer for the Monkees.net, takes the reader on a fascinating journey as he follows the group from its earliest days. Fred, through his experiences, pictures and memorabilia, tells the tale of the Monkees. He writes about the TV show, the music, the concert tours, the different career paths the members of the group took, and the effect the untimely death of Davy Jones in 2012 had on the fans. Fred was one of the privileged few who went from being a kid sitting on the floor in the living room watching his favorite TV show, to an adult, sitting in Davy Jones living room as he helped Davy work on a book. Also included are the stories of other fans and how they too, had very personal involvement with the boys in the band, whether they were sitting in the audience, or up on the stage sharing the spotlight. This book is a heartfelt tribute from the fans to Micky, Davy, Peter and Mike. Fred Velez shares never before seen pictures of The Monkees in various venues, stories that will make you laugh, and personal recollections of fans who had their lives touched by this amazing music group. Fred also adds to the story by highlighting the decades with historical events and his interactions with other music greats, like John Lennon, Ringo Star, Paul McCartney, the Ramones, KISS, and, Jersey's own, Uncle Floyd. Jerry Beck, well known Animation Historian and another big Monkees fan, writes in his introduction to the book, "I'm grateful to Fred for making it possible for me to wave my Monkee freak flag high. Fred is one great guy-and a true believer to the end. His book and experiences with Monkee fandom and the Monkees themselves make a great story and tell the tale from another perspective. The Fan's perspective...I hope they will read and enjoy Fred's story-as it speaks for all of us who have ever felt that art transcends a single viewing, and how it touches our lives in such a positive way." Here's the latest from Michael on Facebook, including a mention about more solo dates: "Papanez calling. Papanez calling. Attention. Attention, Facebook Radio listeners.
More questions answered about the Live Album: I am well pleased with the final recording. It is the full show, played at our best, and well recorded and mixed. As Live albums go I think it is a superb chronicle and fine record. The release of that record works like this: The first edition -- the Super Deluxe -- is a two cd package limited to 200 copies and a very nice surrounding package of goodies including an LP vinyl record of undistributed works in progress. The CDs and package are signed and numbered by me. They are all sold out, so the only way to get one of those packages is to buy it or get it as a gift from one of the original customers. That package will never be made again. The second edition --the Deluxe -- is also a two cd package limited to 200 and also signed by me, The surrounding package is not quite as lavish -- the recording and a T-Shirt. They are also all sold out. See above details. The third edition --the Standard -- is an edited version of the show that fits on one CD instead of two and is unsigned but is limited to 600 copies. That package is a T-Shirt and the cd. It is unsigned but all are numbered. There are a little less than 400 left of those and they are available at Videoranch and will be available at MonkeesCon. The fourth edition is not out yet. That will be the edited show on a single CD in a simple package sold by itself just like a 'regular' CD in the store and at videoranch.com. That edition will be the commercial copy and will be unlimited and available at most places one can buy records. It will be released in a few months. The fifth edition is the digital edition available as a download from all the usual sites such as ITunes and Amazon and of course my site videoranch.com. It will of course be unsigned -- and unlimited, and available sometime later in the Summer/Fall. I am planning on taking the Movies of the Mind show on tour again this year -- a few dates around the US and some dates in UK and Europe and Scandinavia. The first part of that tour will start with the Stagecoach Festival in Palm Springs April 27th. No specific dates or places are ready for announcement yet, but will be soon. Repeat. To be clear and answer all questions: -- the Live album will be available later this year as a stand alone package in the usual outlets -- but the artist editions will never be made again and the first two of those editions are sold out. And I will be doing some solo touring. Here in my tiny cabin high in the remote mountains of the infinite this is all the information I can get out over this olde tyme internet facebook radio thing before it runs out of steam. I must sign off soon. I am starting the journey down to the flats in a few weeks, closing the little cabin here, leaving some food for the finches, and will be among society starting with MonkeesCon and the City Winery in NYC where we will dance and have a good time. Repeat: Dance and have a good time! That is all. This is papanez, over and out." Thanks to Al Bigley for sharing this scan of a poster from an '80s rock magazine as his copy was in much better shape than mine!
