A big thanks to Linda Pearce for the heads up about this new line of Monkees merchandise, set for a Fall 2015 release.
All four members of the band will be released in red shirt outfits, black tuxedos, and their superhero Monkee Men attire! All three series will be released in the 8 inch figure form, while only the red shirt series will be released as both 8 and 12 inch figures.
In a previous interview published earlier this week, Micky joked that the show will feature horns, strings, and an orchestra. It turns out that this was just Micky trying to be funny and it didn't translate properly in the article.
Accompanying Micky and Peter onstage this Friday will be longtime Monkees touring band members Rich Dart (drums), Dave Alexander (keyboards), John Billings (bass), Coco Dolenz, (backing vocals, percussion), Wayne Avers (guitar), and, marking her return to the band for the first time since the 2013 Monkees tour, Aviva Maloney (reeds/wind/keyboards). Thanks to Andrew Sandoval for confirming the details.
Check back with the Live Almanac after Friday's show for a complete set list.
Micky and Peter are set to kick off a round of performances next month in Canada with a warm-up show in Indio, California this Friday evening.
If you are attending the show and would be willing to assist with a small favor for the site (that would consume only two minutes of your evening before the show starts), I would greatly appreciate it. All you need is a camera phone and the site's email address (which I will provide) in your address book.
Please contact me if you can be of assistance.
"Words" was the B-side of "Pleasant Valley Sunday" in the summer of 1967 and later appeared on the group's fourth LP, Pisces, Aquarius, Capricorn & Jones Ltd.
The song, written by Tommy Boyce & Bobby Hart, was originally recorded in August 1966 under their supervision. It was this version that was aired during an episode of the first season, "Monkees in Manhattan," but it would remain unreleased until the Missing Links Volume 2 compilation arrived in 1990.
"Words" was re-recorded in June 1967 with Chip Douglas as producer and featuring The Monkees as the musicians on the track. It was this version that appeared on the "Pleasant Valley Sunday" single and the Pisces LP. On its own merits, "Words" peaked at #11 on the Billboard Hot 100.
