The Monkees are on the cover of the October 2011 issue of Goldmine. Here's a quote from the article by Michael Nesmith:
"I'm going to go back out and perform again. I'm looking forward to that. I don't quite know how to do it yet. But I think I'm going to do a one-man show. The only thing of real interest to me is what's happening now. I love discovery, and I love seeing things slowly coming to light."
Check out this great new interview with Monkees archivist Andrew Sandoval. He talks about the Rhino Records deluxe box for The Birds, The Bees & The Monkees, the most challenging part in writing his book, the Criterion version of Head and the fact that outtakes from the movie exist, his work with Rhino, Michael Nesmith's songwriting and his days at the Troubadour, Monkees projects that were started but not finished, and much more.
A unique update to the website today in the 1969 North American Tour section. Two rare radio spots promoting two different '69 live concerts. (Scroll down towards the bottom of the '69 page to play the clips.)
If you ordered the limited edition clear vinyl release of the Head soundtrack from Rhino (that sold out in one day late last month), you'll be waiting a bit for it to arrive. From the official Monkees Facebook Page:
For all who ordered the limited-edition HEAD on clear vinyl - production delays have bumped this to an October 25 shipping date. Our apologies!
October 25 is also the same date for a regular retail version of the album in stores.
However, still no word on a potential Instant Replay deluxe edition. Long a favorite album of mine, I'm hopeful that we'll see a 3 disc deluxe set for it.
I'll have some photo updates to the site in a short while.
Not much to report as of the last week, and no new updates for the site as of right now.
Please feel free to share with me any scans of tour posters, handbills, rare or unique pictures, concert audio, etc. that you may have in your collection. I'll give you full credit! You can contact me by clicking on the link to the right.
Hopefully we'll have some things to talk about soon in regards to the upcoming Friday Music Pool It! deluxe edition, a potential Instant Replay deluxe (though nothing is confirmed) and more.
Check it out here...scroll down on the page for parts 2 and 3. (The tour discussion is in part 1.)
Davy Jones recently gave an interview that can be found here. In it he discusses the end of the 2011 Monkees tour and why the extra August and September dates added by management were eventually canceled. (I also updated the 2011 Tour summary to reflect some of his quotes explaining the end of the tour.)
According to monkees.net, the Pool It! deluxe edition will be released sometime this fall, although no firm date is set. It will feature a couple of bonus tracks (single remixes and b-sides) and the 1988 Rhino home video Heart and Soul on DVD (for the first time).
Friday Music also announced a September 27, 2011 release date for Davy's first solo album on compact disc. You can check out their Facebook page here.
Finally, I added a few pictures in the CREDITS section of this website, and moved the original Blog picture that was to the left (taken in 1995 at the Hard Rock) to the 1994/1995 Together Again section.
