Check out this original trailer for The Monkees' 1968 feature film Head. You'll spot a lot of scenes that ended up on the cutting room floor. And then you can remember this: Don't forget that Head (and bonus footage from the film) will be a part of the upcoming Monkees Blu-ray box set!
To those of us in the United States, Happy Thanksgiving. And I'd like to wish everyone a great start to the holiday season.
This article, covering the trip Mike and Phyllis made to London in early February 1967, comes from my collection and was originally published in the July 1967 issue of In magazine. Click each image to enlarge...
Thanks to the R.I.P. Davy Jones Facebook page for sharing this unique photo of Davy Jones!
In the May 1967 issue of 16 Magazine, it was reported that Mike provided a unique gift to a fan attending one of The Monkees' earliest concerts:
The most recent Live Almanac poll asks Monkees fans to select their two favorite songs from the recent 7a Records release, Micky Dolenz: The MGM Singles Collection. Being a fan of Micky's early 1970s singles myself, I was thrilled with this release - the first time Micky's MGM era singles had been officially collected. On top of that, the songs were sourced from the original master recordings. One track that got my vote was the 1972 single "Unattended in the Dungeon," written by Bobby Jones and produced by Michael Lloyd, who also produced the three 1986 Monkees reunion songs. The video below for "Unattended" features inferior audio, but it sounds much better on the MGM Singles Collection, which is available on vinyl, iTunes, and soon, compact disc! Don't forget to vote for your selections in the poll located in the blog sidebar (to the right).
Michael posted the following on Facebook earlier today: We are in the middle of getting Videoranch ready for the Holidays so things are a little wobbly in there now. We are making sure that it is stays the secure site that it is while we add some more features. We have a lot of stuff sitting around on the floor right now while we pull stuff apart and put stuff togetther. Like the Holiday meals that are at hand.
Christian and Circe played a show at VR2D yesterday -- and unfortunately had to do it with a lot of the parts not working -- like chat -- and most unfortunately the tip jar. Thank heavens the video and sound stream worked well -- they sound and look great -- and so they did on VR2D. I'm spending most of my time these days on setting up online facilities at Videoranch for concerts next year in VR3D and VR2D, The old music business paradigm has gotten so tattered that it no longer works for real artists and live music from the likes of C&C -- so I am trying to build and offer a way to get live music back in our lives. Spotify and Apple Music and Pandora, etc. have all done real damage to the life and welfare of artists -- especially musical performances. Its not a new story -- people who don't make music exploiting people who do -- but its still just as sad and IMO just as wrong. I was glad to see Taylor Swift, and now Adele shut out Spotify, from their latest recordings -- and of course The Ocean is not available for those streaming services either -- but I don't think that is a long term solution. Streaming is not the problem. Fair wage is --- just like in the working community everywhere. Think of that if you subscribe to these services, Your money is not getting to the people that deserve and need it the most. As an artist I struggle along. If I had not inherited some money from my family I would not be able to maintain my pursuit -- and these last few years all aritist royalties have just fallen off a cliff. The big money you hear about comes from touring -- live shows. My last royalty statement from Warner Brothers Publishing was $1.71, They didn't send the money -- just the statement. There have always been good people in the music "business" as well as bad -- but the music itself is under the care and production of musicians who support it. So VR2D and VR3D are going to venture forth more in 2016 to bring a system of access to the net for artists directly -- so the money falls into the hands of the creators first and not just the purveyors. Thanks to all who showed up to C&C's show -- and apologies for the lousy tech from our side. We're working on it -- better things ahead -- for all. The tip jar will back up and running for the next shows -- whenever they may be -- and that will be a good way to make a direct payment to the artist for good value received. More news to come about this in the next few months. 7a Records, who recently released Micky Dolenz: The MGM Singles Collection, have just announced pre-orders are being taken for Bobby Hart's inaugural solo album, which is being made available on compact disc for the first time. In case you missed it, last week the official Monkees Facebook page shared a screengrab of a previously unseen 1969 performance by Davy on the television program Music Bag. The bonus disc of the upcoming Monkees Blu-ray set will include Davy's performance of "Someday Man," unseen since its original airing in 1969!
