In a recent Facebook post, Henry Diltz recalled the Gene Clark Group, featuring Chip Douglas, who would later become The Monkees' producer in the recording studio:
"The Gene Clark group outside the Whiskey A Go Go in 1966 (my first year photographing). L to R: Chip Douglas (a.k.a. Douglas Hatlelid), my bandmate from the MFQ, Bill Rinehart, guitarist and surfer, Gene Clark, former Byrd, Joel Larsen, drummer and driver. A short-lived but cool group."
Monkees archivist Andrew Sandoval has previously featured unreleased mixes of Monkees songs on his internet radio show, Come to the Sunshine. Below are a sampling of some of those rarities.
In 1998, Micky published a photo book that featured previously unseen shots from The Monkees' 1967 summer tour. Stay tuned for more photographs from this collection.
All four Monkees took part in filming a Christmas medley music video for MTV in early December 1986. The video featured Mike as "Santa Claus" and was in heavy rotation on the cable network during the holiday season. After filming, the quartet hosted a party at a Manhattan nightclub to celebrate the end of a very successful year for The Monkees.
