"Our assignment: write a theme song for a new television show called The Monkees. Tommy and I decided to walk down to a small park near the house we shared in the Hollywood Hills and do our writing there. As we strolled along the narrow, winding country road, the morning sunshine warmed our backs and the fresh air gently blowing through the pines was invigorating. Boyce began strumming his guitar and I joined in the merriment by snapping my fingers while making noises with my mouth that simulated an open and closed hi-hat cymbal. We had created the perfect recipe for inspiration and we started singing about just what we were doing: “walking down the street.” I’ve found that when I try to notice and appreciate the beauty right where I am, I find inspiration and more creativity. I’m sure you will too."
