The last four dates of “The Monkees Present: The Mike & Micky Show” tour have been officially postponed.
This afternoon at the Keswick Theatre in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, site of what was to be this evening's sold-out performance by Michael Nesmith and Micky Dolenz, tour manager Andrew Sandoval addressed approximately 40 pre-show VIP attendees a little after 5pm and announced Michael was ill and that he was returning to Monterey, California to see his personal physician. The remaining shows in Philadelphia, New York, New York, Huntington, New York, and Red Bank, New Jersey, according to Andrew, will be rescheduled for January 2019. I am leaving Philadelphia at the moment. More information later. The Monkees Live Almanac would like to extend well wishes to Nez for a speedy recovery!
UPDATE 6/21/2018 @ 7PM: Andrew Sandoval shared the following message on Facebook about the postponement of the remaining shows on the tour:
I was in the lobby at the Keswick Theatre this afternoon when Andrew addressed the fans gathered for the VIP soundcheck experience. Andrew handled what was obviously a very challenging situation with grace and poise. And the fans, while disappointed, were grateful to Andrew for coming to speak with everyone and vocally expressed their concern for Nez. A special thanks goes to the accommodating staff at the Keswick Theatre.
UPDATE #2 @ 8:30PM: Thank you to John Hughes of Rhino Records for submitting the following statement to The Monkees Live Almanac:
"Michael Nesmith had a minor health issue today in advance of his tour date in Philadelphia tonight. He visited a local medical facility and, although the issue was not serious, was advised to rest for the next week, so unfortunately the remaining four dates on The Monkees Present: The Mike & Micky Show tour have been postponed until a later date. Nesmith has been dismissed from the hospital and is traveling back to his home in Carmel Valley. He is in good spirits and thanks all the fans for their support and understanding. He looks forward to getting back on the stage again soon."
UPDATE #3 @ 9PM: Andrew Sandoval posted on Facebook for the second time this evening to dispute an article published by TMZ about Michael's condition:
TMZ later updated its original piece to clarify errors in their reporting.
UPDATE #4 @ 9:15PM: Various statements about the postponement of the final four shows have been shared on social media from Videoranch, the official Monkees Facebook page, and Peter Tork:
UPDATE #5 @ 9:40PM: Kyler Schwartz posted a photo on Facebook from inside the Keswick Theatre in Philadelphia after tonight's cancelation. VIP attendees were ultimately permitted to enter the theatre to use the restroom if needed. Band members John Billings and Rich Dart were mingling with fans inside. By the time I went to take a picture of the stage, the backdrop had already been removed and the stage was beginning to be cleared by the crew.
UPDATE #6 @ 10PM: The mainstream press are reporting about Michael's health issue and the postponement of the remaining dates on the tour:
UPDATE #7 on 6/25/2018:
UPDATE #8 on 6/26/2018: Micky Dolenz, in an interview with Billboard, speaks about Michael Nesmith, the postponement of the final four "Mike & Micky Show" dates, the potential for a live album from the tour, and more:
UPDATE #9 on 6/29/2018: Michael's daughter, Jessica, posted the following message on her Facebook page:
UPDATE #10 on 7/3/2018:
UPDATE #11 on 7/12/2018: Michael's oldest son, Christian, posted the latest information about Nez on Facebook while also confirming that the previously announced First National Band fall tour will still take place:
UPDATE #12 on 7/25/2018:
UPDATE #13 on 7/26/2018:
From Andy Greene's Rolling Stone interview with Michael:
Nesmith says he’ll definitely make up the four postponed Mike and Micky shows early next year, including a Red Bank, New Jersey show at Count Basie Theater on March 5th. The other three rescheduled dates should be announced in the near future. No plans are in place for additional Mick and Micky shows beyond the make-up dates, but Nesmith says he’s willing to book them should the market demand it. “I’m wide open in terms of what’s going to be,” he says. “I don’t have any reason to say no to anything.”

I just read that on Facebook (Jodi Ritzen's comments) that the TMZ article was inaccurate - I really despise celebrity rags like TMZ. Just hoping Mike is all better soon. I feel bad for the fans who traveled far. I drove close to 500 miles to the show in Dayton, OH (Huber Heights) last week.

I was there in the Keswick lobby when Andrew told us the sad news. I am so sad this has happened to Mike but am glad he was able to get home. Hope he will get much needed rest and recover soon! We love you, Mike!!

Very disappointed about tonight's concert but Mike's health comes first. I met a lot of fans in Glenside who traveled from far distances to be there tonight. We wish Mike Nesmith a speedy recovery.

Wishing Nez a speedy recovery. At least there was a valid explanation for the tour ending early. Unlike the 2011 concert extension. Still waiting, to this day, for an explanation as to WHY that 2011 tour was aborted early. Had to eat air fare to Hampton Beach, NH.

Yes, I had heard that Davy was the reason. So zero money is better than "not enough" money, which is idiotic to me. Especially after fans had purchased tickets and made travel arrangements.

My wife and I drove from Annapolis MD to Glenside PA for her birthday to see the concert at the Keswick. Although we were disappointed to find out when we arrived that the performance had been postponed, we still wish Nez a speedy recovery and hope to catch "The Mike and Micky Show" on its rescheduled date. Meanwhile, kudos to the staff of the Keswick for their superb handling of a challenging situation! Bravo, folks!

That’s just Nez. I don’t know if he’s always been like that, but ever since he returned to touring in 2012, he’s been late on cues or messed up lyrics. Even on the First National Band Redux tour. I attribute it to being rusty, which is hopefully all it is.

Good to hear Tony but I saw them the night before in Toronto and this show was very very different - not just in the setlist - hopefully it is nothing significant - I hope I get to see the New many many more times - well at least many.

I had wondered if something had been bothering Mike when I saw the setlist for the Kitchener show. It was all of his songs that got dropped that night, so my first thought was that he was maybe not feeling 100%. I’m not saying that’s related to what happened but just a thought

Whodat- I thought the same thing- what if they would have had (and Nesmith is my favorite Monkee- so don't take this the wrong way anyone)- they had Mickey do most of the songs but featured Christian to substitute on his fathers songs. This would have been better for those already there.

I was there and I thought the same thing. I was there around 4 pm and I could hear them soundchecking "A Little Bit Me" with what sounded like Micky's vocals. If he was in the theater, they could have made everyone happy by doing a makeshift show or at least a meet and greet and offering to come back to do the full show in January as well. Someone asked about Micky and Andrew said that he was 'in the vicinity". I drove from the DC area, but there were others in the VIP lobby from much further away -- Texas, Florida and North Carolina to name a few. They wouldn't sell merchandise (someone asked) and at one point we were promised signed books but they later said they will give them out at the rescheduled date. There is no doubt in my mind that Michael was ill and everyone was very nice, but the only thing they did essentially was say "sorry, come back in January.."

Hey Ray! I was standing next to the 2 ladies from NC...I'm from FL. I am keeping my Keswick ticket as well as the Beacon and Red Bank ones. I hung out with several cool Monkees fans at the Hilton who were in town for the show. We made a pact that we're meeting up whenever the gig reschedules. Are you planning on being there in January?
Ray

Hey C.J.! I’m definitely hanging into my tickets and I’m gonna be there at the Keswick and the Red Bank shows. See you there!

First, and foremost, here's hoping that Nez is relaxing and getting some well-deserved rest back home. The traveling rock star (wink) lifestyle isn't easy on anyone much less on the older Papa Nez. I think it was Garth Brooks who said after his tour that he was paid well to travel but played for free.

Thanks, Gregg, and I concur in sending best wishes to Nez. Andrew did confirm in Philadelphia that the shows to date had been recorded, but with the tour being postponed for now, we'll have to see what happens down the road regarding any live recordings. Stay tuned.

Any updates on the rescheduled dates? I agree that January could be challenging for those of us traveling sizable distances, but it would be really helpful to have some news on this. With that in mind, any insight that might be provided is greatly appreciated. Thanks and, as always, get well soon, Nez!

It has now been over a week since the postponement of the last four shows on the tour. Still wishing Nez all the best and a speedy recovery, but does anyone have ANY news about the rescheduled dates? Truly not trying to be insensitive or impatient, but it would really help to know anything at all, particularly since it involves travel plans for so many folks. Thanks in advance for whatever help or insight you may be able to provide!

Do we think the other dates will be in that March time frame also? I'm holding off on booking a January vacation until I hear the date of the rescheduled Paramount show, since it was originally estimated as a January reschedule. This show takes precedent over my vacation travel plans.
