Christian Nesmith posted this picture on his Facebook page just now showing Micky, Michael, and the band in rehearsals for this week's upcoming concerts in Tuscon and Phoenix, Arizona, and Friday night's big homecoming show in Los Angeles at the Pantages Theatre.

"He will spend a significant time with us in Los Angeles on Sept. 16." Circe Link and Christian Nesmith will once again be a part of The Monkees' backing band when Micky Dolenz, Michael Nesmith, and Peter Tork perform in front of a sold-out audience at the Pantages Theatre in Los Angeles, California on September 16. The show is already more than noteworthy as it will apparently be Michael's final live performance with the group. When his father returned to the stage in 2012 for a Monkees tour that year after the passing of Davy Jones, Christian joined the band, playing guitar beside Wayne Avers. His companion Circe Link was welcomed aboard for the 2014 Monkees Tour. Both Circe and Christian have their own music careers, often recording and performing together. As a preview of the Pantages show, here's Christian, Circe, and Micky Dolenz performing stellar versions of both "Porpoise Song" and The Beatles' "Good Morning Good Morning" during a special 2015 online performance: You can read all about Christian, Circe, and the rest of The Monkees' backing band in the Live Almanac's archives.
Updated Friday, August 26 @ 9am EST Yesterday, Michael Nesmith posted a message on his Facebook page announcing that he will make his last appearance on The Monkees' current 50th Anniversary Tour (and perhaps his final as a Monkee) at a Los Angeles concert this September. Major media outlets have been covering this story: "His message concluded with what reads like a farewell to his career as a Monkee." "The Monkees' Mike Nesmith announced Aug. 19 on his Facebook page that he'll do one more show with fellow Monkees Micky Dolenz and Peter Tork on their 50th anniversary tour..." "As Nesmith wrote, he anticipates the Los Angeles gig to be his last with the Monkees." "Nesmith made the announcement on his Facebook page, stating that his appearance on September 16 at the Pantages Theater in Los Angeles will be his final performance with the Monkees." "Michael Nesmith has announced he will play one final show with his group before splitting for good." "He also made statements that may be putting a cap on his involvement with The Monkees as a whole." "Nesmith...said the Pantages show allows him to firmly close the book on his tenure with the band." The Monkees' current 50th Anniversary Tour will make its way to Los Angeles on September 16 for a performance at the historic Pantages Theatre, and today on Facebook, Michael Nesmith confirmed that he will be joining his bandmates for this homecoming show. Michael's message also seemingly hints that his future activities with The Monkees are coming to a conclusion. "I expect it will be fun, and a great way for me to sign out," Nez wrote. "I see the specter of the multiple Sinatra retirement/farewells — and this seems like the perfect time for me to step off, sit down and shut up. Hope I see you there. No, I don’t have any tickets. What a long strange trip, it’s been said...and it looks like I’ve made it to the end." The Monkees' 50th Anniversary Tour commenced on May 18 but has featured only Micky Dolenz and Peter Tork. Nesmith, however, has joined both Dolenz and Tork this year at various other events, including an interview for CBS Sunday Morning, a SiriusXM Town Hall, and a radio guest spot in Louisville, Kentucky. He also "appeared" with Micky and Peter in New York City on June 1 via Skype, performing "Papa Gene's Blues," and joined the duo during the encore performance in Monterey, California on August 5. And of course, The Monkees' first album of all new material since 1996, Good Times!, features all three surviving members of the group. Michael explained to fans earlier this year that a commitment to deliver his upcoming book, Infinite Tuesday: An Autobiographical Riff, prevented him from going on the road. Nez, however, has publicly kept the door open to playing with The Monkees. Micky and Peter have already performed 30 concerts in North America to positive reviews and enthusiastic audiences, and are currently on a break until September 4 when the tour resumes in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada at the Pacific National Exhibition. Michael's Facebook message also confirmed that he will not be joining Micky and Peter later this year for their tour of Australia and New Zealand, but did promise a busy 2017. "I...will be starting my Infinite Tuesday book tour in the first quarter of 2017, as well as some solo concerts, and other projects that will make it not possible to be with them on that tour [of Australia and New Zealand]." Michael Nesmith to perform with The Monkees in Los Angeles in SeptemberMicky Dolenz and Peter Tork were guests of Laura Shine on 91.9 WFPK Radio in Louisville, Kentucky this afternoon during the 3pm EST hour. Micky and Peter talked about a number of topics, including The Monkees' new album, Good Times!, the fact that they were in Louisville during Muhammad Ali's funeral today, the 50th Anniversary Tour, and more. Micky also said that "Terrifying," written by Zach Rogue, is one of his favorites to come from the sessions for Good Times!, and it was aired after Micky's comments. Laura Shine also played a number of other songs from Good Times!, including the title track, "Me & Magdalena," "Love to Love," and "She Makes Me Laugh." Peter talked about his brother's composition, "A Better World," available exclusively on the f.y.e. deluxe version of the album, which was also played on-air. Rounding out the playlist for the hour was "I'm a Believer," "Pleasant Valley Sunday," and "Riu Chiu," allowing Peter to talk about his affection for the song and noting that it was recorded live on the set of The Monkees' television series for their 1967 Christmas episode. Micky and Peter were also asked about their earliest musical influences, and both chose songs to be played that they counted as particular favorites. Micky selected "Baby Please Don't Go" by Them (featuring Van Morrison): After talking about his Greenwich Village days and his friendship with Stephen Stills, Peter requested "Whispering Bells" by The Del-Vikings: A surprise came for listeners at about 3:40pm EST when Michael Nesmith phoned from his home in California to join the program. Laura Shine asked Nez what he has been working on as of late, and Michael comically replied saying he was busy playing the video game Warcraft, which caused Peter to interject, jokingly telling Nez that he should be working on his upcoming book (which is due to the publisher this fall). Michael asked Micky and Peter how their tour was progressing, stating that he has read all of the positive reviews the shows have been receiving. Micky talked to Nez about Good Times! and how well it is performing on the charts, and Michael said he has been following everything and has been pleasantly surprised. Nez then asked Micky and Peter when they all could get together to play live, and he suggested the September 16 concert at the Pantages Theatre in Los Angeles (get your tickets now!). Michael also spoke about how much he wants to join Micky and Peter on tour. Asked by DJ Shine to choose an influential song from his youth, Michael selected "Bo Diddley" by Bo Diddley: I hope everyone had a chance to listen to this hour-long program with The Monkees. Laura Shine did a wonderful job, and it was a very unique moment to have Micky, Peter, and Michael all together on the radio. I'm working on gaining audio of the entire hour from WFPK, so please stay tuned!
