Here's a rare Monkees collectible to start off your new year, one that I have never come across previously. A seemingly original 1969 promotional poster for The Monkees' seventh album, Instant Replay, recently sold for $335.99 on eBay!
In September 1986, at the height of The Monkees' blockbuster 20th Anniversary Tour and accompanying MTV-inspired resurgence, Columbia Pictures released the group's 1968 feature film, Head, on VHS, Beta, and Laser Disc. The cover of those versions is represented by the poster below to the left, while a vintage promotional advertisement for the movie appears on the right.
Check out this great poster, a creation of Monkees fan Becca Nelson. I think it sums up 2016 nicely!
A live recording of a Dolenz, Jones, Boyce & Hart show, Concert in Japan (recorded on July 20, 1976 at Yubin Chokin Hall in Tokyo, Japan), was initially available only in Japan in 1981. The album was later distributed on compact disc in the United States in 1996. This is a poster that was included inside the Japanese album.
Thanks to Fred Velez who submitted this photo of a poster of Micky and Davy included inside the Japanese release of the Dolenz, Jones, Boyce & Hart album.
The news that some of Davy's personal belongings will be auctioned in New York City in May made the newswires yesterday as many major media outlets picked up the story. Here's one from the UK's Daily Mail:
Treasure from Davy Jones' locker: Monkees fans to have chance to pick up instruments, costumes and more during auction of late singer's memorabilia
This reproduction item, apparently signed by all four Monkees, was recently sold on eBay for big bucks...
Thanks to Brian who found this poster online and submitted it to the Live Almanac! Hopefully we'll be able to see this long lost Micky Dolenz film shortly...
Thanks to Al Bigley for sharing this scan of a poster from an '80s rock magazine as his copy was in much better shape than mine!
Produced by Chip Douglas, and backed with "White Christmas" that featured a lead vocal by Davy, this single was released on Douglas' own label in 1976. Original orders for the single included this mini-poster seen below.
A big thanks to JD McCutcheon of Monkee45s for sharing!
