 7a Records co-founder Iain Lee has delivered the scoop to The Monkees Live Almanac regarding their first ever Michael Nesmith-related release! Michael Nesmith at the BBC Paris Theatre will be issued as a limited edition 12" vinyl picture disc and as a CD digipak. The compact disc version will be accompanied by a 12-page booklet that includes a rare 1975 interview with Michael, an essay by Iain, and an interview with Dave Pegg from the Fairport Convention, who played with Nez in the past. Recorded in London on November 27, 1975, the concert had been tucked away in the archives of the BBC until 7a licensed the master tapes, which have been digitally remastered. Nesmith has approved its release, too. The album features Nez performing alone with his guitar, singing First National Band-era songs along with cuts from his then upcoming LP, The Prison. What a great release, another era of Mike's solo live work covered. I have heard lo fi recordings of another gig from that visit, and it will be great to have this release in the collection. It would be equally fantastic if live recordings of the First National Band or Nez's Infinite Rider period shows would see the light.

This is indeed GREAT NEWZ!! However, I am curious what happened to the Micky Dolenz live in Japan set ? Has this one been put on the back burner for now ? Hopefully, it's still in the plans.

It’s not as short as you think - it was a radio show, so yes, it runs to a slot length, but there was a lot more than just the music: as well as your usual between-song chat, Nez basically narrates the plot of “The Prison” between his selection of songs - not the text of the book, just him riffing the narrative ad lib. It’s a far more illuminating way to get the book/ album/ soundtrack thing than reading and listening! :-)

Superb release... if only his show was longer.. The sound, the packaging, etc. are all first rate. Another fine release by 7a. There is no doubt these guys are true fans. So, from one fan to another - THANK YOU. Bring one either of the two Dolenz releases - please...
