The Live Almanac is pleased to present photographs and newspaper coverage from The Monkees' August 1, 1969 appearance in Tampa, Florida at Curtis Hixon Hall (45 years ago today). To my knowledge, these pieces have not been previously published or available online. Many thanks to Michael Luciano who shared these items from his collection. It's always great to see anything from the 1969 era surface, and it's a privilege to share it on the blog. Thanks again, Michael!

Awesome and wow! A great find .. and actually a well written account of the boys in Tampa.. I thoroughly enjoyed reading.. complete with Micky and the bubble machine gone wild... piece by piece the lost year (1969) is starting to take shape.. even describing the goodtimers setting the mood warming up the crowd..

I was there! My Mom found out The Monkees were "coming to (y)our town" and she secretly bought 3 tickets, then waited until the week before the concert when she told me that I was getting an early birthday present, tickets to The Monkees concert and with the extra ticket I could invite a friend. I asked my friend Helen Ann Price, whom we called Happy, to accompany my mother and me to the show. It was my first ever "rock" concert and a night I'll never forget! It would be great if I was able to get in touch with Helen again, as we were both Air Force Brats, it's easy to lose touch with friends.

I thought I saw the Monkees in Tampa in 1968. Peter was with them🎷all four were there. WS Peter not with them on this tour in 1969? His pic is not on the poster

Bonnie, I've heard that people who can't remember the 60's partied too hard to remember. Well I was only 11 the summer of 69 so no drugs were erasing my memories. I'm sure it happened exactly as the article and my previous comment suggested.

So, in 67 they didn't come to Tampa. They went to Jacksonville and Miami in July of 67. Thanks for your help on this matter. Did you get to go to any of their concerts? Leave a Reply. |
