The Live Almanac would like to pass on the news that Peg McManus, mother of Maggie McManus, former editor-in-chief of Monkee Business Fanzine, passed away yesterday.
I had the opportunity to meet Peg at a couple of different Monkees concerts over the years, and each time she was a pleasure to speak with and always smiling. In Atlantic City during the 2011 tour, I approached Maggie after the show to say hello, and then had a moment to say hi to Peg. I remember thinking that it seemed like Peg felt it was nice to meet some of the people who had subscribed to the fanzine, and to share in the enthusiasm of the moment. Peg asked me when I became a fan, how long I traveled to see the show that night, and smiled throughout our conversation. That conversation has stayed with me because it was a nice way to cap off a great show, speaking with Maggie and her mom who had both done so much for the Monkees community over the years.
Speaking of Peg's contribution to Monkees fans, Maggie put it best in her farewell letter that was published in the final issue of Monkee Business Fanzine in June 2002:
Peg wrote her own letter to Monkees fans in that same farewell issue. Here it is in remembrance and appreciation of her.
