Monkee Spectacular was published by Tiger Beat from April 1967 through August 1968 for a total of sixteen issues. Each magazine was completely devoted to The Monkees and featured color photos, exclusive stories, fan letters, contests, and more. Several photos exist showing members of The Monkees reading the magazine during breaks of filming their television show. However, by mid-1968, The Monkees' fortunes had dwindled considerably, and the magazine went out of print. Though it heavily previewed the filming of Head throughout its 1968 issues, Monkee Spectacular was defunct by the time the movie finally premiered in November 1968. As a Monkees fan who has always been interested in their activities throughout 1969, it would have been great if the magazine had continued a little longer!
