In October 1966, JCPenney contacted a Screen Gems merchandise representative to orchestrate a crossover marketing campaign to assist in the promotion of the retailer's new line of Monkee clothing. Penney's pushed for the opening of the line to coincide with the release of a brand new Monkees album. As a result, and much to the chagrin of Micky, Davy, Michael, and Peter, a photograph of the group wearing Penney's clothing was used on the cover of More Of The Monkees, issued in January 1967. Originally, the group had been photographed by Bernard Yeszin while donning the Penney's clothes with the idea that the photos would be for catalog purposes only.
Below is a scan from an old Penney's catalog displaying the items that were sold. More Of The Monkees was available in-store at Penney's and through their catalog, too. Thanks to Al Bigley for submitting this to the Live Almanac! And check out Monkee45s.net for more photos and to easier read the descriptions and prices.
