The Monkees commenced their late spring tour last night at the Hampton Beach Ballroom in Hampton, New Hampshire. According to email reports, here are a few tidbits from attendees:
1. "Daydream Believer" - Since the 2012 tour, a member of the audience has been brought onstage to sing Davy's signature Monkees song. Micky, Michael, and Peter are now sharing vocal duties for it, with multiple reports suggesting Michael handled the second verse for the most part.
2. Aviva out; Circe in - Aviva Maloney, who handled saxophone and other wind instrumental duties, and who has been a member of The Monkees' touring band since 1996, was absent from the show. Singer/songwriter Circe Link (who is also Christian Nesmith's companion) was a new addition and could be heard on backing vocals throughout the evening.
3. Setlist remains largely the same: "The Door Into Summer," added late to the set during the 2013 Monkees tour, retained its spot in the show while Peter's rendition of "Early Morning Blues and Greens" was dropped. In its place, "Shades of Gray," with Peter on lead vocals, was performed for the first time since the 2011 tour.
