On April 3, Rhino Records will issue The Mike & Micky Show Live on compact disc just as Michael Nesmith and Micky Dolenz return to the road in Vancouver, British Columbia. (A 2-LP vinyl edition will be available on May 15.) Featuring live performances from the duo's concerts recorded throughout March and June 2019, both the CD and vinyl releases will feature the same 25 tracks.

In most markets, every ticket purchased for Michael and Micky's April tour, "An Evening With The Monkees," includes your choice of a CD or digital copy of The Mike & Micky Show Live. (UPDATE 3/18/2020: The tour has been rescheduled for Summer 2020.)

Thought: it's possible Rhino prefers this cover photo because they want casual fans to remember The Monkees as they were in their 20s' and not as the cool grandpas of the current era? Just speculation.

No. The cover shot is a photo taken by Coco Dolenz. It's a live, unaltered photo.

When I pre-ordered the Milk & Micky album, this 7a record showed up as a recommendation: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B084QMDCSP

I hadn't read anything about a Micky Dolenz: Live from Japan album before. Shipping May 15.

The front cover looks very cheap and fan-made. Actually it is from Coco Dolenz (from her cellphone I guess) as Andrew Sandoval mentioned. I guess Micky thought it was a good (and cheap) idea to choose her picture. Of course I know it's about the music but this cover nearly makes me not wanting to buy this album. Maybe I will do when it is released on vinyl.

The blurry cover is going to look worse blown up to vinyl album size.

Actually, I kinda like the cover. It indicates movement, spontaneity, stage perspective and features an enthusiastic audience (all of us!) rendered anonymous by the live-action blur. Never mind the "kinda" for the plea is in defense!

Sure wish they had included "Good Clean Fun" - what a great, unexpected opener that I got to experience in person at The Orpheum in Los Angles in 2018. A real highlight of the 2018-19 shows.

Maybe soon. It’s a glaring omission. They edited Mike well on all the other songs so I’m confident there is a good composite. It’s missing about 4 or 5 songs.

Love Coco's photo on the front. This tour was for the fans. This CD is FOR THE FANS.
So guess what? I love that the fans are on the front cover. Why not? ❤

Will there be details of what shows the songs came from? I was at the Royal Oak MI concert in March 2019 and would like to know if some of these songs came from that show.

Rhino’s site, briefly, had four “bonus tracks” listed: “Good Clean Fun,” “Porpoise Song,” “Take a Giant Step,” and (I believe) “I’ll Spend My Life With You” but those were quickly removed after people (Like me) noticed and started asking about it. Supposedly, it was “a mistake.”

The ACTUAL mistake is not making these songs tracks available for fans as either a limited bonus disc with early copies, or a retailer exclusive, or offering fans who purchase the CD download code for the extra songs (What does Rhino have against offering downloads?).

Or, one could argue the mistake was not in including show opener “Good Clean Fun” on the actual album at all. Makes a lot more sense to include that than “A Little Bit Me, A Little Bit You,” which Nez has always disliked (I’m told he left the stage for that song?) and which neither Micky nor Mike had anything to do with in the first place.

And “Porpoise Song” is too good to leave off. Who wouldn’t want a live version of that??

“Daydream Believer” is fine and tribute enough for Davy. Two of “his” songs on “The M&M Show” is one too many.

Hopefully one day Rhino will release complete Mike & Micky shows via digital downloads similar to what they did with the Monkees Summer 1967:The Complete U.S. Concert Recordings box set.

een

I’m guessing the “bonus tracks” will make an appearance on vinyl for Black Friday RSD in November. Just a hunch.

Shaun
3/8/2020 23:00:32

@ een: Perhaps, but RSD that means it’ll just be a very small print run that only a few fans lucky enough to find it at their record store (And likely get price gouged for their troubles), after standing in line for hours in the hopes their store actually has it, will walk away with a copy.

And it’ll likely be on vinyl only, so CD buyers will be screwed over.

RSD is a (bad) joke.

Find a way to make bonus tracks available to everyone who wants them. A bonus disc (Vinyl or CD) for early copies, or a retailer exclusive, or a download code, are all ways to do that. RSD is not.

Great songs, great tour, and a band made up of some of the best musicians around. I'm very happy we get this live album which captures the Mike and Micky Show. My only disappointment is the absence of the show opener "Good Clean Fun". I was so pleased that song was chosen as the opener. I look forward to the album! Thank you!

Maybe Rhino and/or Andrew should address why it was decided to cut some greatness as Giant Step, I'll Spend My Life With You, Porpoise Song and Good Clean Fun - I'm sure there are good reasons including technical. The song list is great but we've over heard Last Train, both Believers (although i get including Daydream), even Steppin' Stone...that said, I'd miss those as well - its hard to remove any, am i right?!

We all know rhino are in this to make money maybe they are holding back the missing tracks to release on black friday but just cannot see why they do not put them on the vinyls that will be coming out a month later and at the price that it is listed at is twice has much as the cd. and it would make it more attractive to fans
