On November 11, 1965, filming of the pilot episode for the proposed series The Monkees began in Los Angeles and San Diego, California. The director was Mike Elliot, a commercial director and still photographer who had never previously been at the helm of a television program. In this 1989 interview with Paris Stachtiaris and John Di Maio on Headquarters, Elliot recalls his thoughts on the script and his initial impression of Bob Rafelson, The Beatles' movies, working with The Monkees, and much more.
Between parts 1 and 2 of the interview with Elliot, you'll hear Davy's "When I Look Back on Christmas" that was recorded in 1976 or 1977.
