Since the Monkees convention this past March, now more than 2,600 fans have voted in the Live Almanac's poll asking which three songs would be worthy of inclusion on the set list for the upcoming 2014 Monkees Tour. The song selections in the poll feature cuts that haven't been performed by Micky, Michael, and Peter since The Monkees returned to the road in late 2012.
As of this evening, the top five choices are "Love Is Only Sleeping," "Sometime in the Morning," "Saturday's Child," "Salesman," and "Take a Giant Step." These results mostly mirror the leading choices from the last time we checked in with the standings on April 11.
"Love Is Only Sleeping," "Auntie's Municipal Court," "Steam Engine," and "Nine Times Blue" have never been played in concert by the group. ("Nine Times Blue," however, was performed live by Micky, Michael, and Davy on The Johnny Cash Show in 1969.)
The last time "Salesman" made the set list was during the 1969 Monkees tour. And "Take a Giant Step" was last heard on the spring leg of the 2001 tour.
"Saturday's Child" and "All of Your Toys" both made their live concert debut on the 2011 tour. "Sometime in the Morning" and "Shades of Gray," usually reliable warhorses when The Monkees perform live, were also last heard in 2011.
The start of the 2014 tour is getting closer. Have an opinion on the set list? I'll keep the poll open a bit longer. It can be found to the right of this post in the blog sidebar.
