This evening, Monkees.com emailed the following message about the forthcoming Monkees Blu-ray package that was scheduled for a June 24 release: The Blu-ray set was first announced by Rhino on September 8, 2015 with a street date of January 29, 2016. On January 12, 2016, Rhino pushed back the release date for the first time to April 29, 2016 but later announced on April 14 that the set would be delayed until June. Rhino's John Hughes commented on the third postponement on the Zilch Facebook page:

Yeah I ordered this just after Christmas... they postponed it to April... sometime in March, they screwed up my bank account by randomly double charging my account, had to get 175 dollars worth of OD fees refunded. Then I waited till bout 2 weeks before the April release date, and about two days later, lo and behold delayed again... now Im frothing in the mouth this month cause I just got a new Blu Ray player and sound system, wanting to see the new stuff and the episode quality, and ONCE AGAIN, told to wait, this time til after July 4th!! Will never preorder anything again. Besides, I preordered all the previous Deluxe Editions, and I see they are actually still on sale despite being highly limited.

Personally I think they should LOWER the price. That's pretty steep for a two season series. Plus I think 10,000 is a low count for a box set release. If 26,000 people can buy the new Monkees album in one week, I think there might be more demand for the series in Blu Ray. But not at that price. They could make so much more money by making more and selling for less.

Ten thousand is a reasonably high number for the completist fans - which this edition is aimed at. Remember there is going to be a general release, without the Bonus Disc, later this year or early next. I imagine the majority of the 26K who bought the album are non-completists who will pay a lower price for just the shows & Head. I think Rhino/Time Warner is going to do alright in either event.

Enough with the entitlement. Talk about looking a gift horse in the mouth! Please get real, folks. "Dropped the ball"? "Refund"? Do you know how much work--technical, legal, logistical--goes into a thing like this? Have you ever, say, ordered 50 color copies at a Kinkos? There's a good chance it might be ready 20 minutes later than they estimated, or that the blue might not be as vivid as you wanted. You may have to send it back and wait longer. And that's a simple order. Now imagine something of this magnitude. Audio. Video. Packaging. Booklet. Copyright clearances. This is a HUGE project and a product that, frankly, they owe to no one. It's yet another Sandoval labor of love. Please show some gratitude. You're going to get your product and it's going to be awesome and you're going to love it. You can always cancel your order if you're that pissed off.

I personally think that they deliberately delayed the release (not necessarily the last one) so that they could capitalize on all the media interest generated by the new album and tour, thereby maximize sales. I think the price is crazy high for half hour two season series and they should have made the edition size much lower to stimulate sales. I plan on holding out for what I see as an inevitable future sale on this set.

It's much more than just the two seasons.

Exactly BTM - again! Plus, it's still coming out before the actual 50th Anniversary of the shows debut in Sep '66!

I am like the little boy who wants a cookie but is told to wait until after dinner. What does he do? the boy sneaks into the kitchen and moves the kitchen stool to the kitchen cabinet, so he can reach for the cookie!!! Anybody have a kitchen stool? I want my Blu-ray now!!! I want my MTV (Monkees Television)!!! LOL!!!

I confess I'm stunned at first about delay in shipping(I want the blu ray set as much as I strongly desire season 3 of the Flying nun-and that's VERY MUCH),but if I have to wait so be it(I especially want to see the original early Monkees

Kind of a drag. I was really looking forward to getting it in the next couple of weeks, but I guess two more weeks won't hurt. It would be nice to get a little bonus something for the wait, like maybe a set of the Monkees action figures. Just sayin'.
